a. Jacob Himes born 1800 married a Catherine-Holmes County, Ohio
2. John Himes born between 1770- 1780 married Elizabeth Kauffmann

John Himes wife Elizabeth Kaufmann died intestate and Jacob Himes was appointed as administrator of her estate in 1852 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. Elizabeth Kaufmann's father Leonard names her as one of his children in his will and gives her husband's name as John Himes. Leonard Kaufmann's will was probated in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. The baptism for Jacob Himes at St. Jacob's Lutheran and Reformed Church in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania gives his birthdate as 9 June 1807 and his parents' names as Johannis Heym and Elisabeth. Sponsors were Jacob Heym and wf. Catharina (John Himes the father and Jacob Himes the sponsor were brothers).
There was a Jacob Himes living in Irvin Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania in the 1840 census with the following composition:
Free white males under 5-1
Free white males 20 thru 29-1
Free white females under 5-1
Free white females 20 thur 29-1
Persons employed in agriculture-1
This may be this Jacob Himes since he does not appear in Redbank Township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania in the 1840 census. Also, there is a Christena age 12 and a Mathias age 10 in Jacob Hime's family in the 1850 census which match the ages of the children in the 1840 census.
Approximate birthdates calculated for Jacob Himes from his ages in the 1850, 1860, and 1880 censuses and his age given at various times in his pension papers varies.
1850 census-45 born about 1805
1860 census-53 born about 1807
1880 census-69 born about 1811
Muster roll in pension papers dated 30 November 1864 gives age as 53-born about 1811
Declaration for original invalid pension on 20 February 1883 gives age as 71-born about 1812
Declaration for invalid pension on 21 July 1890 gives age as 84-born about 1806
Tombstone states he was 76 years when he died but does not give death date. Since he died 20 August 1896, his birthdate would be about 1820 calculated from date on tombstone.
Jacob Himes married more than one wife but only one was a legal marriage since his first wife was still living when he married for the second and third time. His wife in the 1850 census was Catharine. His wife in the 1860 census was Hetty. Catharine and Hetty may be the same person since depositions in his pension file by his daughter Christiana Beck, his daughter Sarah Ann Snyder, and his daughter Jemima Vasbinder as well as his sons, Adam and Mathias, give their parents' names as Jacob and Esther Ann "Hetty" Mohney (Hetty is a nickname for Esther). She was not living with him in the 1870 census but was living in another household since he had deserted her. The depositions by his children state their mother died 6 May 1887. His wife in the 1880 census was Fannie. His pension papers state he was married to a Nulf/Nulph prior to his marriage on 20 August 1883 to Sarah C. Yale. Sarah C. Yale applied for a widow's pension based on his Civil War service. If he was not divorced from Esther A. "Hetty", then he was never legally married to Fannie Nulf/Nulph or Sarah C. Yale. His third wife Sarah C. lost her widow's pension since his first wife was still living when they were married.

Notes
Marriage
He was living with Catharine in the 1850 census but all his living children in their depositions in 1898 state that Jacob Himes and Esther Ann "Hetty" Mohney were their parents so Catharine and Esther may be the same person.Marriage
The following information was taken from the depositions given by Jacob Himes' children in his widow's pension file. The children who gave depositions in 1898 were Christiana Beck, Adam Himes and his wife Rosanna, Matthias Himes, Sarah Jane Snyder, and Jemina M. Vasbinder. According to the depositions, their parents were Jacob Himes and Esther Ann "Hetty" Mohney/Mony. Esther died the 6 May 1887 but there was no stone to mark her grave in North Freedom, Pennsylvania. Jacob Himes married two women while Esther was still living, a widow named Nulf/Nulph and Sarah C. Yale. Jacob Himes returned home to his wife Esther in Armstrong County after the Civil War but only lived with her a year or less when he deserted her.Military
