John HIMES

There is a deposition in August 1898 in the the Civil War widow's pension file for Jacob Himes, a son of John Himes and Elizabeth Kauffman, by Susannah Himes, who identifies herself as a "very distant relative." She is the wife of Israel Himes, a son of Christian Himes and Mary Ann "Polly" Miller,, a grandson of John George Heim and Susanna Roth, and a great grandson of John George Heim and Rosina Miller. This is important because there is no direct evidence to show that John Himes is also a son of John George Heim and Rosina Miller other than being in the right time and place to be father and son. Jacob Himes and Christian Himes would have been first cousins.

Susannah Himes birth date is 1834 to 1835 since she gave her age as 63 years in the deposition. Israel Himes wife, Susannah Copenhaver, was born 1 March 1835 and lived in Redbank Township, Armstrong County in 1880 near Sarah Yale, Matthew Himes, and Christena Beck who also gave depositions.

Notes

Birth

Pages five to ten of the Himmel Church baptismal records from latter part of 1777 to latter part of 1779 were missing when they were transcribed. George Heim and his wife Rosina had three sons baptized at the Himmel Church from 1775 to 1782. It is possible that John Himes was born between 1777 and 1779 when the baptismal records are missing.
