LINEAGE
Fragment: "Emma Kaleleonalani is also said to have been the great-grandchild of Keliimaikai 1st cousin to Kepookalani and son of Keoua" (Liliuokalani's Book of Genealogy, G-1, p 49). "As was the case with some other important Hawaiians, there was a dispute over the ancestry of Queen Emma. Partisans of the Kalakaua family denied that she was a descendant of Keliimaikai" (Kuykendall, The Hawaiian Kingdom, vol 2 p 83).
Fragment: "Kalaniopuu (k), the true father of Kaleipaihala (k), the grandfather of Kaleleonalani, Queen, and L.M. Kekupuohi, Keawehawaii (k), Halalo (k), and J. Robinson (k)" (McKinzie, Hawaiian Genealogies, vol 2 p 121).
LIFE
A. Adopted by T.C.B. Rooke (Liliuokalani, Hawaii's Story by Hawaii's Queen, p. 26). Dr. Rooke was "an English physician who married Kamaikui, a sister of her mother, Fanny Kekela Young" (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 282).
B. Conflict: Thrum, Chronological Table of Important Events lists marriage date with Alexander Liholiho as June 2, 1856.

E. "After the death of the Prince of Hawaii, Kamehameha IV, in accordance with ancient Hawaiian custom, gave to Queen Emma a new name, Kaleleokalani, meaning "the flight of the chief." After the death of her royal husband, Queen Emma altered this name to the form Kaleleonalani, "the flight of the chiefs"; and this was the name with which she signed her personal letters during the remainder of her life" (Kuykendall, The Hawaiian Kingdom, vol 2 p 280-281).
