LIFE
A. His original name was Kahekili and was renamed Keeaumoku (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 127).
B. He was appointed to his father's position by Kamehameha after his father's death in 1804 (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 190). Known as Governor Cox, assisted with the first printing of a book in the Hawaiian language, done January 7th, 1822 (Alexander, A Brief History of the Hawaiian People, p 178). He was Governor of Kauai (Hawaiian Chiefs Biographical Abstract). Governor of Maui (Bingham, A Residence of Twenty-One Years in the Sandwich Islands, p 80).
C. He learned to speak and read English (Kamakau, Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii, p 244).
D. Conflict: Jarves, History of the Hawaiian or Sandwich Islands, p 244 and Hawaiian Chiefs Biographical Abstract indicates he died on March 23, 1824.
