LIFE
A. He was born at Waipio, Oahu on 3 August 1800 and died in May 1870 (Ii, Fragments of Hawaiian History, p vii).
B. I'i means "stinted" (Bingham, Residence of Twenty-one Years in the Sandwich Islands, p xv).
C. He was a teacher, preacher, and judge. Childhood companion to Liholiho. Also, childhood guardian to Victoria Kamamalu, (Ii, Fragments of Hawaiian History, p ix). He was judge of the superior court (Kuykendall, The Hawaiian Kingdom, vol 1 p 264). He and Sarai became the hanai parents of Victoria Kamamalu upon the death of her month, Kinau (Oukah, Hawaiian Royal & Noble Genealogies, p 53).
