Elnora Beatrice Lovro

Elnora Beatrice (Lovro) Smedsrud was born October 12, 1924, on the family farm near Hendricks, Minnesota, to Emil B. and Bertha (Friestad) Lovro. She died Saturday, August 26,1995 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 70 years.
Elnora was baptized and confirmed at Singsaas Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools in the Henricks-Astoria area, graduating from Astoria High School in 1942. In the fall of 1942 she moved to Sioux Falls and worked for a brief time at John Morrell and Company and Sioux Steel.
On October 21, 1945, she married Warren D. Smedsrud at Sioux Falls. Following their marriage the Smedsruds lived in the Renner, South Dakota, area for three years and Elnora worked for Dr. Haas and later Dr. Burkholder. They lived in the Hendricks area for one year before moving to a farm north of Corson, South Dakota, where they lived for 22 years. The Smedsruds moved to Volga, South Dakota in 1977. Elnora worked as a cook at the Brandon Valley School District for seven years and was head cook for the Sioux Valley School District for eleven years.
Elnora was a member of First Lutheran Church in Volga and was active in Ladies' Aid and Circle. She enjoyed embroidery, traveling, and attending high school basketball and volleyball games. She especially enjoyed her family, attending her grandchildren's music programs, and the neighborhood birthday club.
Survivors include her husband, Warren of Volga; one daughter, Brenda Hayne and her husband, Jack of Volga; one son, Wayne Smedsrud and his wife, Joan of Volga; five grandchildren, Ellen Dulas and her husband, Dave of Pierre, South Dakota, Christopher Hayne of Laramie, Wyoming, Jeffrey Hayne of Volga, Paul and Sara Smedsrud, both of Volga; two sisters, Grace Schaefer of Sioux Falls and Jeanette Carlson and her husband, Don of Dallas, Texas, and one sister-in-law, Avis Lovro of Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edgar Lovro.
