Emma Bjugstad, the daughter of Christian and Augusta Bjugstad was born April 18, 1888 at Sheldon Dakota Territory. She grew up on the family farm near there.
In 1910 she came to Wells County where she was employed on the Henry Garvin farm. Jens Winsness was also an employee on the Garvin farm and the romance begun was culminated in their wedding in 1911 at the Lutheran Church in Sheldon where Emma had been baptized and confirmed.
They began housekeeping on the John Gross farm 6 miles SW of Bremen in Hamberg township and after renting the 800 acre farm for some years, it was purchased by them, and has been their home during all their married life.
Survivors besides her husband include two sons, John J. of Philadelphia and Arnold of Watford City and a daughter, Cora, Mrs. C.L. Matthews and six grandchildren. Other survivors include two brothers and three sisters.
Rev. Solberg based his remarks at the funeral service on the 23rd Psalm and his words were most comforting. The organist was Felicia Solberg who accompanied Mrs. Earl Zumpf and Mrs. Raymond Krahler as they sang "In The Garden" and a trio composed of Mmes Solberg, Dovre and Lindberg sang "Under His Wings." Rev. Solberg paid a well deserved tribute to the deceased speaking of her as the ideal wife and mother and friend of all, who died as she had lived bravely and courageous-ly with a firm faith in the goodness of God in spite of her long and trying illness.
She was a charter member of the Bremen Lutheran Ladies Aid, but became a member of the First Lutheran Ladies Aid of Fessenden when she and her husband united with First Lutheran Church in 1920.
The home was always ready with a warm welcome for all, and she always had a smile of welcome when visitors came to her home. Her memory will always linger like a Benediction telling of the love and mercy of the Lord she loved and served so well.
