} George Wyatt is in a badged trail to surety baron William Malet (see text below).
==Biography==:George Wyatt, Esq., of Allington and Boxley Abbey, Kent, was born in 1550.Richardson, Douglas. Magna Carta Ancestry: A Study in Colonial and Medieval Families. 4 vols., ed. Kimball G. Everingham, 2nd edition. (Salt Lake City, UT: the author, 2011), vol. IV, page 383 WYATT 16. He was the son and heir of Thomas Wyatt and Jane Haute and the brother of Richard, Charles, Arthur, Henry, Joyce, Ursula, Anne (wife of Roger Twisden), and Jane. George's father famously led an unsuccessful rebellion against Queen Mary I for which he was imprisoned and beheaded at the Tower of London on 11 April 1554.
:George was admitted to Gray's Inn in 1571.Foster, Joseph. The Register of Admissions to Gray's Inn, 1521-1889. (London: Hansard Pub. Union, 1889), online at HathiTrust, page 41, folio 609 "George Wyate". He was a writer, however none of his writings were published in his lifetime. It appears from his writings that he served some time as a soldier, probably in the Low Countries, and was likely at the siege of Bergen-op-Zoom in 1588. By 1593, he had settled in Kent.
:George wrote and collected various documents in his later years. These papers were compiled into book form in 1727 by George's descendant, Richard Wyatt. In 1968, the collection was edited by David Loades and published as The Papers of George Wyatt Esquire, of Boxley Abbey.Loades, David M. The Papers of George Wyatt Esquire, of Boxley Abbey. (Royal Historical Society, 1968). Not available online. The papers include discussions of the careers of both his father and grandfather, his view of England's military problems of that era, and a tribute to Anne Boleyn. Also included is a letter to his son, Francis, then Governor of Virginia, written about 1624.Fausz, J. Frederick, and John Kukla. A Letter of Advice to the Governor of Virginia, 1624.” in The William and Mary Quarterly, vol. 34, no. 1, 1977, pages 104–129. Online at JSTOR.
===Property===:The Wyatt family lost their familial estate by attainder in 1554, when Sir Thomas the Younger was beheaded for treason. George's mother, Jane, received some lands and an annuity from Queen Mary in 1555, but her sons never regained their place in Kentish society. Lady Jane Wyatt had been granted the manor of Boxley, with the Upper Grange, and some other lands adjoining it. Jane was apparently not given the Abbey at the time as "the scite and mansion of it" (Boxley) was granted by Queen Elizabeth in her 11th year to John Astley for a term of years.
:In the 13th year of Queen Elizabeth's reign (1571), George Wyatt, Thomas Wyatt's only surviving son, was restored in blood (attainder reversed) by an act of parliament.Hasted, Edward. "Parishes: Boxley" in The History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent: Volume 4. (Canterbury: W Bristow, 1798). Accessed online 19 Nov 2019 at British History Online, pages 324-353. At that time, George was granted a small property at Waverling. George inherited his mothers Boxley and Southfleet properties in 1618 and, in 1622, he secured Boxley Abbey for his family.
===Marriage and Children===:George married Jane Finch, the daughter of Sir Thomas Finch of Eastwell, Kent,Cave-Browne, John. The History of Boxley Parish. (Maidstone: E. J. Dickinson, 1892), online at Archive.org (includes parish register beg. 1594): pages 10, 119, 146-147, 152, 162-3 (burial record of daughters Katherine and Anne), 166 (burial record in latin). by Katherine Moyle,Richardson, Douglas. Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial and Medieval Families, 5 vols., ed. Kimball G. Everingham. (Salt Lake City: the author, 2013), vol. II, page 589. on 8 October 1582. They had the following children: *Sir Francis Wyatt, born ca. 1588, buried at Boxley, Kent 24 August 1644; Governor of Virginia 1621-1626, 1639-1642; married Margaret Sandys 1618.*Eleanor Wyatt, wife of John Finch, Lord Finch.*Rev. Hawte Wyatt, born ca. 1594, buried at Boxley, Kent 1 August 1638; married three times, five children.
*Henry Wyatt
*George Wyatt
*Thomas Wyatt
:The Boxley parish records (pages 162-163) include the burial records of George's daughters Katherine and Anne, who died young, in 1608 and 1611 respectively. Some sources, including Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, state that George and Jane had five sons and four daughters.Loades, David. "Wyatt, George (1553–1624), landowner and writer" in Oxford Dictionary of National Biography. May 24, 2008. Oxford University Press. Accessed online 8 Nov 2019 at OxfordDNB.com (with subscription). The identity of the fourth daughter remains unknown, but it is likely that she died young. A daughter, Isabel, is currently attached as one of George's daughters, however her existence is uncertain.
===Death and Burial===:George Wyatt died in Ireland and was buried at Boxley, Kent on 1 September 1624.Richardson, Douglas. Royal Ancestry: A Study in Colonial and Medieval Families, 5 vols., ed. Kimball G. Everingham. (Salt Lake City: the author, 2013), vol. IV, page 412. His wife survived him, was living 29 April 1639, and died about 1644, aged over eighty years. His son Francis succeeded him in his estates.
===Legacy===:According to the History of Boxley Parish (pages 10-11), the Wyatt lands passed from George as follows:
::1. to George's eldest son, Francis, who died in 1644.
::2. to Francis' eldest son, Henry (perhaps died s.p.).
::3. to Frances (Bosvile) Seyliard, the daughter of Francis' daughter Elizabeth (Wyatt) Bosvile.
::3a. Francis' youngest son, Edwin, younger brother of Henry, filed a lawsuit and gained most of the Wyatt estate, leaving only the Abbey and adjoining lands to Lady Seyliard.
::4. on Frances Seyliard's death, the Abbey was sold to Edward Austin, Esq., and has been sold many times since.
::5. Edwin left his estate to his eldest son Francis, who died without children, leaving the estate to his brother, Richard, who also died without issue and was the last in this line of the Wyatt family. Richard left the land to a relative, Robert Marsham, Lord Romney (grandson of [Margaret] (Bosvile) Marsham who was the sister of Frances (Bosvile) Seyliard).
