Marion Seton
(Abt 1385 - Abt 1440)
== Biography ==
}
Marion born about 1385 is believed to be daughter to William Seton of that Ilk by his wife Janet Fleming.
She married about 1410 to John Ogilvy who in 1420 became first baron of Inverquharity.
They had three sons:
1. Alexander his heir
2. Walter who was heir to Alexanders son.
3. Thomas who acquired Clova through marriage.
The assumption that John’s wife was Marion Seton is supported by the following transaction. On 18 January 1429/30, a Precept of sasine by William Douglas, Earl of Angus, was granted in favour of Alexander Seaton of Gordon, of lands of Newton, Herdhill, Balbrydie, Kinnordy, Mains and Easter Lednathy. The seals of the Earl and John Ogilvy, as bailie of the barony of Kirriemuir, were appended. Subsequently, on 15 January 1434/35, Alexander Seaton of Gordon granted a Charter by in favour of Alexander Ogilvy, son and heir of John Ogilvy of Inverquharity, of above lands. NRS GD205/3/2 see [http://catalogue.nrscotland.gov.uk/nrsonlinecatalogue/details.aspx?reference=GD205%2f3%2f2&st=1&tc=y&tl=n&tn=n&tp=n&k=Inverquharity+&ko=a&r=&ro=s&df=1420&dt=1430&di=n]
As the above Alexander Seton of Gordon was brother to Marion Seton and his mother was Janet Fleming, Marion was most probably named after her mother's sister Marion Fleming who married Maule of Panmure. Registrum de Panmure, Vol. ii 230 see [https://archive.org/stream/registrumdepanm00ofgoog#page/n295/mode/2up]
Furthermore this suggests that Marion's first son was named after her brother, thus the grant of 15 January 1434/35 was from uncle to nephew.
