== Biography ==
Robert Stewart was born about 1270. He was the son of [[Stewart-270|John Stewart]] and [[Bonkyl-3|Margaret Bonkyl]]. A source for this information is needed.
Robert fought at Bannockburn, and with three of his brothers, Sir Allan, Sir Walter, and Sir Hugh, accompanied Edward Bruce to Ireland in 1315. He was in the battle of Dundalk in 1318, in which Edward Bruce was killed.

The Heraldry of The Stewarts by George Harvey Johnston (page 76) gives the Progenitor of the Steuarts of Allanton as James Stewart of Daldowie (Roberts brother). However Stirnet & Electric Scotland give Robert Stewart son of John Stewart of Bonkyl as the ancestor.
