Joshua Sylvanus "Selvey" BENNETT

(15 Apr 1818 - 5 Apr 1899)

In 1820, he was brought by his parents to Clark County, Indiana.

Joshua was a very sucessful farmer and also a carpenter. Joshua was the
first postmaster at Prather, Indiana. He is thought to have been one of
the builders of the old Bennett house at Prather which is still in good




condition at the present time. This house is next to the old Prather
schoolhouse now used by the Ladies Union Club.

Joshua was married to Indiana Davis in 1841 by the Reverend George Swartz.

Joshua and Indiana are burried in the same lot along with Uriah, Cornelia
and Ary P. Bennett at New Chapel.At least 10 children
