Jacob settled in that part of Prince George Co.,MD whcih in 1748 became Frederick Co.. He apparently intended to settle in upstate SC, as did his father-in-law a few years later. He received a land grant in Berleley Co.,SC in 1750, but was still in Frederick at the time of his birth. The family may have delayed moving to SC, since the French & Indian War began in 1753, and lasted until 1760. During that time, there were frequent attacks in the Shenandoah Valley, which would have been their route to SC.
