Helen Abbie HowaldThursday, April 16, 2015Helen Abbie Howald, 103, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.Born March 7, 1912 in Bridgeton to James F. Shepard and Grace Hardesty Shepard, she grew up in Brazil and graduated from Brazil High School in 1930. She married Richard Howald, who passed away Sept. 14, 1988.She was a member of Berea Christian Church and then became a charter member of Eastside Christian Church. She was the very definition of a homemaker as she did a lot of crochet, made her own clothes, canned items from her garden and was a wonderful cook, making great fried chicken.Survivors include her son Denis J. Howald of Wingate, seven nieces, four nephews and their families.She was preceded in death by brother, John Shepard, two sisters, Anna Kay Lane and Dorothy Snell.Graveside services will be at 2 PM Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Clearview Cemetery, along S.R. 340 in Brazil, Indiana, led by Pastor Bill Brock from Eastside Christian Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastside Christian Church, 400 E. Church Street, Brazil, IN 47834.
