Death
Dorothy Shepard Snell, age 97 of Brazil, IN died Monday, November 7, 2011 at the Hospice of Hamilton in Hamilton, OH.She was born October 21, 1914 in Brazil, IN as the daughter of James and Grave Hardesty Shepard. She graduated from Brazil High School with the Class of 1931 and earned her Associate Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University in 1933. She married Joseph Snell June 14, 1941.Dorothy worked as a secretary in several offices including, Mullenix Ins. Agency, Clay Co. Farm Bureau Co-Op, Social Security in Washington DC and during World War II she worked as a civilian employee for the U.S. Air Corp. She also worked for Robert Neal, John Stelle, John Baumunk, and the Clay Co. Economic Development Organization.She was an active volunteer at Meridian Street School PTA, board member of the TB Association, Girl Scout leader, Red Cross Grey Lady, and Red Cross Campaign chairperson. She was a 90 year member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, Women’s Society leader, and Bible School teacher. She performed for many years in the Easter and Christmas pageants at church. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, Keewana, Euchre & Bridge Club, Child Welfare, Tri-Kappa Sorority, and the Women’s Golf and Bowling League. Dorothy was a talented presenter of book reviews, inspirational stories, and poems.She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anna Kay Lane; brother, John Shepard; and her husband, Joseph.She is survived by her daughter, Jane Bledsoe (Dean) of West Chester, OH; grandchildren, Chris Bledsoe (Leela) of Half Moon Bay, CA, Douglas Bledsoe (Linda) of Kings Mills, OH, and Dina Rife (Ryan) of Geismar, LA; nine great grandchildren; sister, Helen Howald of Brazil; and several nieces and nephews.Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday, November 12th at Moore Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Clearview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clay Co. Humane Society, 8280 N. Co. Rd. 125 West, Brazil IN 47834Endnotes
