The Daily Northwestern (Oshkosh, WI) 2 May 1904:
Mrs. Nancy Rumery, wife of Lyman O. Rumery of 53 Merritt street, a prominent pioneer resident and former lumberman of Oshkosh, died Sunday afternoon about 4:15 o'clock at her home. About three months ago she suffered a stroke of paralysis and the disease gradually grew upon her until for several days it was known that there was no hope for her recovery. Through all her suffering she remained patient and thoughtful of others. The shock of her death is a severe one to the family and to many friends.
Mrs. Rumery was born in St. Stephens, New Brunswick, Nov 27, 1831, and was therefore in the seventy-third year of her age. On December 9, 1851, she was married to Mr. Rumery at Baileyville, ME. In the year 1855 Mr. and Mrs. Rumery came to Oshkosh, where they resided ever since. During the first few years of their residence here they lived about where Stony Beach summer resort is situated. The large family residence at the corner of Merritt and Mt. Vernon streets has been occupied for the past twenty-three years by Mr. and Mrs. Rumery. They celebrated their golden wedding in December of 1901 and the occasion was a reunion of relatives and friends. Mrs. Rumery was of a quiet disposition and her interests were chiefly in her home. Those surviving her are her husband and the following children: J. P. Rumery of Chicago, Mrs. Howard Clement of Milwaukee, Mrs. L. H. Gunnell of Arlington, NJ, Miss Carrie Rumery, Miss Susan Rumery, Miss Daisy Rumery and L. O. Rumery, Jr., all of this city. Eight grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Gunnell is ill and will not be able to attend the funeral. The funeral services will occur Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence, in private. Friends are kindly requested to omit flowers.
