Individual Details
John W./Ulery STUDEBAKER
(1 JUL 1816 - 15 AUG 1901)
From "The Studebaker Family in America - 1736-1976" by Walter CARLOCK, Alvin Girard FAUST and E. Irene MILLER; 1976; page 174:
"The Brumbaugh book gives his name as John W. This is an error, as he was named for his mother's brother, John ULERY.
'They both united with the Church of the Brethren in AUG 1837. Soon after this, they loaded their goods in a wagon and moved to Delaware Co., IN where several other Brethren families had already settled. In the spring of 1841 at the organization of the Mississinewa Church, John U. STUDEBAKER was elected deacon. He was placed in the ministry in 1847 and ordained an elder in the spring of 1859. Upon the passing of Elder John YOUNCE 26 SEP 1865, he was chosen Elder in charge of the Mississinewa Church. He was a man of "indomitable preserverance, unpresuming and self-sacrificing. Served the church for 60 years and was know as Johnny U"."
