Nicolas St-Hilaire
(23 Jan 1870 - 30 Dec 1904)
Nicolas and his brother Joseph started a creamery and mercantile business. One day a tramp entered the store after closing hours. Nicolas tried to get him out and the tramp began to throw rocks at the windows. Nicolas took a pistol and fired in an effort to scare him away but the bullet hit the man killing him. Nicolas was arrested and a trial was held. He was acquitted but that did not mend his broken spirit. He died a few months later.
