William and Sarah lived in a log house on Betts Road on November 29, 1872 when Almira was born. They still lived there in 1878 when Almira started to school at the schoolhouse located on the property between their home and the Bill Brigg place. Her teacher was Emma Smiley, a daughter of David Smiley, Jr. and Elizabeth A. Robertson, who was later married to Thomas Freeman and then to Theodore C. Woodruff.
William sold this farm to Judge J. B. White and moved to a place in Ridgetop on the road to Greenbrier. The house had been owned by a German by the name of Lowenstein who had been shot and killed while feeding his hogs.

William Munford Wingo died in a loging accident near Ridgetop, Robertson County, Tennessee. The accident happened on September 24, 1895 in a woods located on a tract of land that Elmer Robb sold to his brother Grant Robb in 1888. William and his wife Sarah were staying at the Robb home because Sarah was confined to bed with an illness. Elmer was teaching school at Ridgetop at the time. William had planned to return to Robb's for the noon meal unless he happened to be a Trenary's sawmill at noon in which case he would eat at "Buck" Smiley's which was near the mill site. The women became uneasy because they thought they heard his wagon coming up the hill and stop short of the barn lot. They were so sure of what they heard that Almira went to look for her father. When she did not find him they became afraid something had happened to him. By the time that Elmer arrived home from school they had become so apprensive that they persuaded Elmer to postpone his plan to pick Whippoorwill Peas and go look for William.

Elmer went down the hollw road to their next neighbor, the Wiley Robertson's wose place was between the area from which William was hauling logs and Trenary's sawmill. He inquired whether Mr. Wingo had passed. The Robertson's told him that he had not and that they could be sure because they had been planting winter onions beside the road all day. Elmer then returned to the loging road which led from the main road up the hill into the woods where Mr. Wingo had been working. He preceeded up the logging and came to a fork in the road and started in one direction, but something seemed to direct him the other way. After a short distance he could see Jack, the small white mule that Mr. Wingo used to pull logs onto the wagon. Just beyond lay Mr. Wingo with a log across the upper part of his body. He apparently had been killed instantly by the first log he had tried to load that morning. Snooter, a large white part Newfoundland, that always accompanied William to the woods was sitting on the high end of the log warding of hogs that were eating acorns within twenty feet of William's body.
Elmer went to seek help from his neighbors, the Dersewehs. Frederick and several of is sons came to Elmer's assistance. By the time they arrived back atthe scene of the tradegy, night had fallen and Snooter would let none of them near the body until Elmer spoke to him to assure the dog that the men were frinds.
