Individual Details

Margaret Hammond "Marj" ALFORD

(21 Oct 1892 - 23 May 1958)

Nola says, "My grandmother Margaret was an amazing lady. I remember her well. I was 13 when she died. She spent a lot of time with us. My Dad was in the army and when he was away, my nanny came and stayed with us at 80 Garden St East Geelong and later at 93 Shannon Avenue Newtown. She always came and took care of us when mum went into hospital to have another baby. I have a clear picture of her sitting outside in Garden St, with a pile of socks...darning them. She was a very "proper" lady. Always very well dressed and quite religious. Very loving. She was very tall...(in my eyes) and very beautiful."

Witnesses at birth were Dr Paddie and Mrs W Hammond.
Listed on her death certificate as spinster with no children.
