Individual Details

Patricia Ann BRENIMAN

(11 Jun 1943 - )

Pat was born at the Community Hospital in Grinnell, Ia. Her parents were farmers and they moved several times. She attended schools in Hartwick, Guernsey and Montezuma, Ia., where she graduated in 1961. She helped her dad alot on the farm, liked driving the tractors and helping out.
She was a member of 4-H for 8 years during her school years, learned a great deal about cooking and sewing from her experiences in the club. She held all of the offices, even ran for a county office. She was also very active in the church. She went to Sunday School and church, sang in the church choir on Sunday mornings. She taught a class of Sunday School for a while. She was also involved in the Sunday night youth group, held an office at the state level.
After graduation Pat helped care for her Grandmother Breniman for two weeks and then got a job making coats at DeLongs Jacket Factory in Grinnell, Iowa. After being laid off, she got a job in the bookkeeping department of the Poweshiek County National Bank in Grinnell. She rented a room at Caddens where several other young women roomed.
She and Leon got married and had an apartment in Grinnell. The apartment was on the third floor of a residence on 5th Avenue. In several areas of the apartment you had to duck your head because of the slant of the ceiling.
Pat continued to work at the bank until Lori was born, then quit to become a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and made a good share of the girl's clothes. Later she took up bowling, and bowled on a league for many years. For about 15 years she made cloth dolls and bears and sold them, began collecting patterns, dolls and bears. She has always loved to sew and craft.
In January 1986 Pat went to work part time at the Blue Grass Savings Bank in Blue Grass, Ia. Three years later she went to work full time for them. After working full time for two years, she asked to return to part time because of Leon's ear surgery coming up and she wanted to be more free to do other things. April 1, 1997, with more stress than she wanted to handle, she resigned her position (retired) from the Blue Grass Savings Bank. She had worked there 11 years.
Retirement actually brought along more work than leisure for a while. She helped her mother, Anna Breniman, move to an apartment and sell her home. When Leon retired, she helped him clear the land they bought and also helped him build their home.
Once they moved back to Montezuma, Pat decided to become involved with the Poweshiek County Genealogical and Historical Society. She is the Vice President and does volunteer work for them at the courthouse. She also works on inquiries that they get from people outside the area.
Pat's hobbies...genealogy, sewing and crafts, gardening, reading romance novels.
