Max Edward BRENIMAN

He was a member of the Jackson South Pows 4-H Club for many years, showing cattle, sheep, and pigs at the fairs. His one cow, Beau Domino, won Grand Champion ribbons at the fair.
Max was also active in Sunday School and church, plus youth group, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Montezuma. He worked at a gas station while in high school to earn extra money. He liked to bowl, was on a league that won several trophies.
After graduating from high school, he worked for the Montezuma Elevator. Shortly after his marriage, he went into the US Army, served some time in Viet Naum before returning home.
He then worked for Poweshiek County on the roads and then got a job as a driver for Nutrena Feeds near Grinnell. He did trucking for Zylstra Trkg. for a bit and also did some trucking for Roorda Trucking. . In 1988, Max went to Minneapolis to help accept an outstanding safely record award for Cargill Feeds. In July 1993 Max was recognized as a Cargill Nutrena driver who has logged one million miles without an accident, one of 34 of the company's 900 drivers to achieve this honor. He had been employed for 27 years at this time. Two years later, without any warning, he was told he no longer had a job with them. The company was reorganizing. Max was laid off with his severance pay.
He soon found a trucking job with Efco Company in Des Moines. He trucks all over the country, is gone from a few days to a couple of weeks at a time.

Max and Delores were married at the First Presbyterian Church at Montezuma, Iowa, by Rev. G.R. Dieken. Delores' sister, Dorothy, served as her matron of honor. Max's cousin, Donald Parks, was best man. Max's sister, Betty, was flower girl.Military
Max Breniman Fills Poweshiek County's June Draft Quota -- Poweshiek county's draft for June was one and has been filled by a Montezuma man. Tuesday, Max Breniman left for induction at Des Moines. He has since been assigned to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., for basic training. Breniman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Breniman of Montezuma.Draft Call For Max Breniman -- Max Breniman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Breniman, left Tuesday for Des Moines to fill the Poweshiek county draft quota for June. Max E. Breniman took his physical for Army service Feb. 26, 1962 at Des Moines, Iowa and passed. He was inducted into the Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, on June 19, 1962 for his basic training. He graduated from there on Aug., 1962. On Sept. 7 he reported at Fort Gordon in Georgia. He graduated from their radio and supply school on Jan. 25, 1963. He will report in California Feb. 24 and March 5 will leave for Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Breniman of Montezuma received word Saturday that their son, Pvt. Max Breniman, had arrived safely in Vietnam where he is serving with the armed forces. He left California via jet March 3. His wife lives in Montezuma where she is employed in the treasurer's office.
