Lori was always a very smart little girl, learning to say things and spell words beyond her age of learning. She could easily recite the Pledge of Allegiance when she was very small. She liked to spend lots of time with her Grandpa and Grandma Rowell at Montezuma, Ia. She was always happy to go and spend a few days or even a week with them.
She joined 4-H and was a member for several years, winning lots of blue ribbons. She learned to sew, made a prize winning doll. When she was a junior in high school she got a job working as a bus girl at Mary's Restaurant just outside of Davenport.
She was a rebel, got into a bit of trouble here and there, ran away to a girlfriends' house when she was a senior in high school and decided she didn't want to live at home any more. She finally returned, but didn't seem happy.
She enlisted in the Army on March 26, 1984, before she had graduated from high school, left for duty July 5, 1984. She began duty at Fort Dix, N.J., and received specialized training at Ft. Sam Houston, Tx., where she became a Combat Medic. She had a tour of duty in Korea from Dec 11, 1984, until Feb 1986, and then went to Fort Carson, Co.. She was discharged from duty Dec. of 1990, returned to Davenport with her son, Darius.
Life has always seemed difficult for Lori, whether she made bad choices or didn't try. She couldn't seem to find a job, went to live with her Grandma Rowell for awhile, but returned to Davenport again and struggled some more. She moved with John, her boyfriend, to Arizona in the spring of 1995. They moved to Houston, Texas, in early 1996 and seem to be doing well there where most of his family live. They bought a house in Spring, Texas, during the summer of 2002.
