Marriage
Miss Mary Elaine Molison, daughter of Senator and Mrs. Wilbur C. Molison of Grinnell, was married Sunday, June 17, to Grant A. Finley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex A. Finley of Harlan.The wedding was solemnizes in the First congregational church in Grinnell at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The Rev. Leland W. Mann officiated in the double ring ceremony. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father, who gave her in marriage.
An arrangement of white gladioli, stock, yellow mums and daisies were on the altar. Floor baskets of the same flowers and candelabra were in the back ground. Miss Mary Evans of Grinnell, and Miss Cay Munn of Boone, wearing yhellow taffeta formals and wrist corsages, lighted the candles.
Mr. Norman Goodbrad, organist, played the nuptial music and accompanied soloist Robert Molison, brother of the bride, who sang "Entreat Me Not To Leave Thee" and "The Lord's Prayer:.
The bride's gown of pure silk antique taffeta, trimmed with improted Florentine lace, featured a moulded bodice styled with a bateau neckline, self covered buttons down the back, long sleeves tapering to bridal points at the wrists, full gathered floor length skirt with lace medallion trim. Her silk illusion veil was caught with a crown of orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of white roses, lilies of the valley and ivy strands.
Miss Muriel McLain of Alexandria, Va., a cousin of the bride, attended as maid of honor. Her nile green taffeta waltz length formal was styled with snug bodice, tucked yoke and full circular skirt, finished with a bow in the back. her headpiece was a bandeau of pink rose buds and she carried a shower bouquet of pink roses and ivy.
Bridesmaids, Miss Millie Willett of ames, and Miss Jane Montgomery of Cedar Rapids, wore gowns fashioned identically like that of the honor attendent. They work bandequs of yellow rosebuds in their hair and carried shower bouquets of yellow roses.
Miss Kathleen Malone, Pittsburg, Pa., a cousin of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a yellow taffeta, floor length gown and carried a basket of roses.
Mr. Rex G. Finley of Harlan served as best man for his brother. Dennis C. Johnson of Ames and Phillip K. Duvall of Logan were groomsmen. Ushers were Mac Molison of Grinnell, Smith W. Brookhart of Duluty, Minn., and Darwin W. Van Skike of Cedar Rapids.
For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Molison chose a wedgewood blue lace and linen dress, white accessories and a lavender orchid. The bridgroom's mmother was attired in true blue linen, with which she work shite accessories and a lavender orchid.
A reception for two hundredd guests was held in the church parlors. A three tier wedding cake, decorated in yellow and orchid and topped with a wedding bell trimmed with yellow rosebuds, was cut by Miss Sammy McCleery of Laurel and served from an individual table by Miss Gail Anderson of Crosby, N.D.
Refreshments were served from two identically appointed tables overlaid with white organdy skirted cloths. Mrs. Robert Breckenridge of Ames and Mrs. William Schneckloth of Tipton poured. Mrs. Maynard McLain of Brooklyn and Mrs Leonard Sheerer of Stillwater, Oklahoma, served the punch. All are aunts of the bride.
Others assisting with the serving were Misses Arleene and Verna Madill and Miriam Tomasek of Grinnell, Mary Jean Stodard of Ames and Jane Wood of Eldora; Mrs Frank Malone of Pittsburg, Pa. and Mrs. Charles Gates of Ft. Knox, Kentucky.
Mrs. Rex G. Finley of Harlan was in charge of the guest book.
For their wedding trip, the newlyweds motored to the Minnesota lakes and Canada. For going away, the bride wore a full length beige mandarin style coat over a sleeveless sheath dress of blue polished cotton print, with beighe hat and and blue accessories.
The bride was graduated from Grinnell high school and Iowa State College, Ames. She is a member of Phi Beta Phi and Omicron Nu and Phi Kappa Phi honorary sororities.
Mr. Finley attended Kemper Military School and was also graduated from Iowa State College where he affiliated with Sigma Chi, social fraternity, Phi Eta Sigma, Tau Beta Phi and Phi Kappa Phi honorary fraternities. He is supervisin engineer with Western Engineering Company, with headquarters in Harlan.
Mr. and Mrs Finley will live at Lake Okoboji during the summer months. Mr. Finley reports for military service as a member of the Engineering Corps at St. Belvoir, Va. September 1.
