VALLEY PIONEER TALLULA BRENIMAN, 76: Newspaper Obituary and Death NoticeDaily News of Los Angeles (CA) - Tuesday, February 17, 1987
Deceased Name: VALLEY PIONEER TALLULA BRENIMAN, 76
Tallula Breniman, a pioneer resident of Canoga Park and a charter member of the Canoga Park Women's Club, died Thursday of heart failure at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She was 76.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at United Methodist Church in Sun City, Calif., said Breniman's son-in-law, Don Weddle of Buena Park. Interment will take place at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth, he said.
Born in Louisiana, Breniman moved with her family to Canoga Park in 1929. She attended Canoga Park High School where she met and later married Ansel D. Breniman, the high school football coach, Weddle said.
Breniman supported her husband's coaching and always attended the games, Weddle said. The stadium at Los Angeles Pierce College bears Ansel Breniman's name in honor of his 33 years as a football coach at Canoga Park High School, he added.
Mrs. Breniman, who was a "fanatical bridge player and golfer," also operated the Canoga Park Welcome Service during the early period of the community's rapid expansion, he said.
After traveling abroad to Europe and Africa, the couple retired to Sun City in 1968, Weddle said.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Breniman is survived by her son, Paul Breniman of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter, Mary Lou Weddle of Buena Park; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
