Robert Tate Cantrell

"Robert Tate Cantrell was born in 1835 at Cantrell Cross Roads, McMinn County, Tennessee. Government records indicate that Robert Tate Cantrell enlisted in the 4th Regt. Cav. S. M., April 14, 1862 at Springfield, Missouri, and he was mustered out March 28, 1865 at Warrensburg, Missouri. A review of marriage records of Webster County, Missouri reveals Edward Kendrick, an acting Justice of Peace, filed a declaration june 3, 1858 that he had solemonized the rights of matrimony between Robert Tate Cantrell and Lucinda Dunkin, March 18, 1858.
"Robert Tate and Lucinda Cantrel sold to William Duncan 120 acres of land in Webster County for $600 on March 13, 1860. Robert Tate and Lucinda Cantrell purchased from a Mr. Deckard 120 acres of land in Union Township for $220, October 2, 1865. The U. S. census of Webster County, Missouri in 1870 enumerated Robert Tate as head of a household in Union Township. He was 34 years of age, Lucinda age 30, Seigle age 9, Martha J. age 4, Mary F. age 2. The U. S. census of Union Township, Webster County, Missouri taken June 11, 1880 lists Lucinda Cantrell age 44, Cornelius S. age 16, Martha J. age 15, Mary F. age 14, James A. age 9, Phillip A. age 9 and Liza Elizabeth age 5. The U. S. census taken June 26, 1880 of High Prairie Township, Webster County, Missouri lists Robert Tate as a laborer for his brother, Joseph P. Robert Tate's age was shown as 49, but he was 44. Robert Tate's mother died July 10, 1881. Her estate was probated, and the final settlement was made May 20, 1884. Robert Tate died in 1886, and he was buried at the Sixteenth Cemetery on Cantrell Creek. Lucinda Cantrell filed September 4, 1886 as natural guardian of the minor children of Robert Tate Cantrell, deceased." (CANTRELL - CANTRILL, 1972 by Horace Elbert Cantrell, pages 198 - 198a.)
