"Robert was born in October of 1849 in DeKalb County, Tennessee. A search of the 1870 census of DeKalb County failed to reveal the name of Robert Cantrell, but a girl named Lilly B. Clouse, age 19, was living with her sister, Lucinda Cantrell, the wife of Peter Cantrell, age 23, born in Georgia. According to Mrs. Christie's book, Robert married Lettie Cloutz, who was born in Georgia. After the marriage they lived in Tennessee." (CANTRELL - CANTRILL, 1972 by Horace Elbert Cantrell, page 408.)
