John Calvin Cantrell
(October 6, 1844 - November 11, 1919)
"John Calvin Cantrell enlisted in Capt. James Gribbles' Company, 13th Tennessee Cavalry, Col. F. B. Murray. After the siege of Murfreesboro, he exchanged with Rufus Simpson into Colonel Savage's 16th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry, and took part in the Battles of Stone River, Chichamauga, Missionary Ridge, and several minor battles and skirmishes. He is a Probibitionist and a Baptist. He and his wife live at Temple, Texas (1907)." (THE CANTRILL - CANTRELL GENEALOGY, 1908, by Susan Cantrill Christie, page 80.)
"John Calvin Cantrell was born October 6, 1844 in DeKalb County, Tennessee. He married first Eugenia Cooke, October 9, 1873. She was born in 1846 in Georgia. Four children were born to this union. Eugenia died in about 1884, and John maried second Priscilla Gueswin Thorp about 1885. She was born in 1855 in Arkansas. Five children were born to this marriage. Soon after his first marriage, John moved to Polk County, Georgia, and after the birth of two children, they migrated to Texas. In 1880, they lived in Johnson County, Texas. By 1896, they had moved to Bell County, Texas. They were living in Bell County in 1907, but they moved to El Paso County, where John died November 11, 1919.
