"Simeon Graybeal was a farmer, grazier, and merchant. He located on a part of the old homestead in Ashe County, North Carolina, which he sold after 1870 and bought land in Tazewell County, Virginia. He later sold that and moved to Greenbrier County, West Virginia. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity Tazewell Lodge, No. 62. During the Civil War, he served two years or more in the North Carolina Reserves, and he had three brothers in the service. One of these, Calvin, was made prisoner, and held at Point Lookout. John, another brother, went through the lines to Ohio, and remained with friends till the close of the war. The paternal grandfather of Simeon, Peter Graybeal, resided in Jackson County, Ohio. The late David Graybeal, father of Simeon, was a soldier of the War of 1812 and settled in Ashe County, North Carolina. The birth and death dates of the children of Martha Greear and Simeon Graybeal were taken from the Greear family Bible." (Lois Temple FGS 438.)
