Individual Details

William Andrew "Spreadie" "Andy" Greer

(April 5, 1833 - October 15, 1897)

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Warren H. Houck shows Andrew Greer, who married Catherine Lawrence, as the son of Elijah Greer and Sarah Hawkins. Other researchers show Andrew Greer as the son of Elijah and Sarah. The 1860 Ashe County census shows both of these Andrew Greers with their own families. I am not sure which Andrew was the son of Elijah, nor am I sure which Andrew served in Co. I and died in the Civil War at Nashville. However, I know from the above 1860 census that Andrew, who married a Susannah Greer, had the children Alexander, Catherine and Lidia before 1860. So it appears that this Andrew was Andrew A. Greer, and was the son of Alexander Greer and Lydia Curd. He lived until 1897.

This being said, who were the parents of William Andrew Greer in this census?: 1860 Johnson County, Tennessee census (pages 163-59): William H. or W. GREER, 26, NC; Anna GREER, 21, Tenn; Isabella GREER, 1, Tenn. The direct line of William Andrew Greer, through a child Jane Greer, down to Crystal Surber was sent by Crystal Surber, email:mustym@hazmat.com>, in 1997. Who are the parents of this William Andrew?)

Therefore, I am showing this as the genealogy of these two Andrew Greers, which agrees with the genealogy of Warren H. Houck.
