Mary Nellie Hammonds

Mary Nellie Lowrie, 88, died Monday, July 3, 2000, in Garland. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. David Verbeck officiating, directed by North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mrs. Lowrie was born in Gordon, Ark. She married Alexander C. Lowrie in 1935; he preceded her in death in 1979. They moved to Abilene in 1941 where she worked for the Abilene Independent School System cafeterias for over 15 years. She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church where she worked in the nursery for over 25 years.
Survivors include one son, Charles Lynn Lowrie of Garland; one daughter, Katherine White of Arlington; three sisters, Daisy Hamlett of Tucson, Ariz., Esther Terry of Coleman, Martha Martin of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
