"Joe T. Hammonds, age 84 of Brownwood, died Monday, January 4, 1994 in a nursing home in Early. Services will be held Thursday, January 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Henderson's Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with the Rev. Richard Hetzel officiating. Burial will be in the Coleman Cemetery. Born June 28, 1909 in Gurdon, Arkansas, he was the son of Watt Hammonds and Aggie Phelps. He attended Arkansas schools. He married Aletta Eddy on June 15, 1948 in Coleman. In 1966, Mr. Hammonds moved from Coleman to Brownwood. He was a member of the Santa Anna First Baptist Church. His occupation had been that of a butcher. He is survived by his wife, Aletta Hammonds of Brownwood, four daughters, Brenda Wilkinson of Brownwood, Pat Stacy of Ranch Cuca Monga, California, Betty Jo Doden of Irving, and Betty Lee Buchanan of Meridianville, Alabama. Also one son, Lloyd Hammonds of Brownwood, four sisters, Esther Terry of Coleman, Mary Lowry of Abilene, Daisy Hamlett of Tucson, Arizona, and Martha Martin of Ft. Worth, fifteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jim Bode, David Buchanan, David Stacy, Bruce Terry, Ralph Terry and Brad Wilkinson."
