"Betty Jo Hammonds and Norman Gearhart, a serviceman stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas, were never married, but had a child, Brenda Elaine Hammonds, who lived with her grandfather, Joe Hammonds and his wife, Aleta Mae Hammonds, from the time she was 3 days old. Brenda was legally adopted (?) by Joe and Aleta Hammonds in August 1965 in Coleman County, Texas."
