Greenberry "Green B." Greer

(September 15, 1764 - September 16, 1842)

"In the Name of God, Amen. I, Greenberry Greer of State of Tennessee and County of Davidson being aged and infirm but of sound mind and disposing memory thinks be to God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament revoking other wills by me heretofore made. In the first place I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to be buried in a neat and decent manner at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named. 2ND; I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Charlotte Greer the whole of the track of the land I now live and eight negros (to wit) Jack, sam, Priscilla, Andrew, Phobe, Laban, Milley, and Mary with their increase and all my stock of horses, cattle, sheep, and hogs, also my farming tools, household furniture of ever description during her natural life. 3RD; I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Tennison and her said children she had by John Goodwin three to wit, Fanny, Benjamin and Jenny to be equally divided amongst them by sale or otherwise as they may agree. 4TH; I give and bequeath to my son Isaac Greer one negro man named Jess and one hundred acres of land on Brush Creek which I purchased of John Trout in addition to what I have already given him. 5TH; I give and bequeath to my son James L. Greer one negro man named Simon and the track of land whereon I now live after the death of his mother and it is my will and desire that the balance of my property be left to my beloved wife Charlotte be equally divided between my five youngest children to wit, Azeny Dullahunty, Parmelia Jones, Tabith Cooper, Huldah Hanna, and James L. Greer and give to my daughter Parmelia Jones and son James L. Greer two hundred dollars each to be paid in notes or money when collected from notes in my possession. LASTLY: I give and bequeath to my Grandson Greenberry Greer son of James L. Greer one negro boy named Washington and at my decease I devise and request that my beloved wife Charlotte shell have what money shell be left by me for her use and benefit her natural life and at her decease all money that may be left by her should there be any to be equally divided between my five youngest children heretofore named to wit; Azney Dillahunty, Parmelia Jones, Tabith Cooper, Huldah Hanna, and James L. Greer. I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife Charlotte Greer and my son James L. Greer and my friend John Davis to be executors of this last will and testment. "Greenberry Greer, son of Joseph Greer, Jr and his wife, Ann Lowe, born 9/15/1754 in North Carolina ... Joseph Greer Sr resided in Prince George County, Virginia where he made his will August 8, 1715 naming sons John, Joseph, Benjamin, James, Henry and Annaias. Clayton Hist. of Davidson Co Tenn gives birthdate of Greenberry Greer as 1764. Clayton W W History of Davidson Co Tenn 1880. ... Greer Genealogy of the Dillahunty Family gives this date (Greenberry's birthdate) as 1754." Addie Lee (Oliver) Greer (the author) teacher writer was born 11/14/1872 at Macedonia, Tennessee (Carroll County) and was living in 1963. She married Lee Martin Greer 12/23/1903 in Paris, Tennessee.)
