Individual Details
Jemima Greer
(Bet 1766 and 1770 - Aft 1844)
(Information about the ancestory of Jemima Greer from Leona Harris Mero, 212 Brightwood Avenue, Hampton, Virginia 23661 (1977), as per ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE GREERS, 1982 by Carolyn Beal, page 172.)
"Jemima Greer, born 1770 or 1776 or 1777 married Philemon Saunders 23 Nov 1786, son of Julius and Jemima Saunders, moved to Barren County, Kentucky before 1840. Issue 12 children." (Genalogical Chart of Richard L. Greer, Marion, Virginia, 1985.)
"Philip (sic) Saunders and Jemima Greer married November 23, 1786, Elisha Lions, sur.." ("Over the Mountain Men - Their Early Court Records in Southwest Virginia," Franklin County, compiled by Anne Lowry Worrell, 1983, originally published 1934, page 19.)
(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Other research has placed Jemima Greer being born about 1766. It is just a guess that Ann and Joan Saunders were sisters of Jemima Saunders, as all three married brothers.)
"Jemima's marriage bond was signed by Thomas and Ann DeMoss as guardians. Ann DeMoss was the widow of Joseph Greer. Deed by Thomas DeMoss, Executor of Joseph Greer's estate, to Philemon Saunders for land in Franklin County, Virginia. This was Jemima's inheritance; when the land was sold, she released dower. This proves Jemima's parentage and her marriage. I have also seen Jemima's date of birth as 1770." (Leigh Blount, Roanoke, Virginia, 1995, as per Franklin County, Virginia, Deeds, Book 2, 1789-1793: 1 April 1789; "Raney Collection", Vol. 29; Marriage Bond.)
