(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: Carolyn Beal in ROYAL HERITAGE OF THE GREERS, page 211 gives a marriage date of May 1, 1781 for Temperance Greer and Ward Holcher (Hatcher). This would make Temperance only 13 years old, therefore it is doubtful that this is the correct date.)
"After Ward Hatcher's death, Tempy took care of Williamson Burnett, an invalid. David Burnett was the issue of this relationship. Since Williamson was still married to Priscilla, his estranged wife, he could not marry Tempy. By law, Tempy was required to give their son her last name, thus David Burnett is not a Hatcher, but descends from the Burnetts and Greers. It is not clear where her other children, Eli and Richard, were living in 1810. They were not with Tempy." (From "The Burnetts and their Connections," by June Bork.)
