Benjamin Greer Jr.

Henry and Benjamin Greer were twins. They were from Bedford County, Virginia. Benjamin's will was dated February 21, 1816 and was made in Greensburg, Kentucky.
"Benjamin Greer married Sally Early, daughter of Elizabeth Carraway, March 19, 1812." (WINGFIELD'S WORKS, "Franklin County Marriages" by Marshall Wingfield, page 99.)
(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: GREER KINSMEN by J. B. Bell lists Benjamin Greer's wife as Sally Early. In GREERS THAT GOT TO GEORGIA by Julian Greer show her as Sallie Compton. A Benjamin Greer did marry a Sally Compton, but not this Benjamin Greer, according to Delores Davis of Fresno, California. Children of Benjamin and Sallie (Compton) Greer is given by Julian Greer in GREERS THAT GOT TO GEORGIA. There is some confusion in this book as different Benjamin and Aquilla Greers are substituted in various charts. I find this Benjamin marrying Sally Compton on Mrs. White's list as shown in Peck's book, page 44, and in Julian Greer's book, with a list of 11 children and a note that his will said he had eleven children, page 30. If this Benjamin married in 1812 and died in 1816, he could not have had 11 children! I also note the list of this Benjamin's children, as given by Julian Greer and the children of Benjamin Greer and Nancy Wilcoxson to be almost identical. Therefore, it is possible the list of children given for this Benjamim Greer may be inaccurate. However, as the marriage date to Sally Early is so late in life, I feel that he was married previously, and I have added Sally Compton, as given by Peck as his first wife.)

Carolyn Beal gives no marriage date; but William Peck Greer gives date 9 Jan 1792.
