Anna Chisum was the daughter of John Chisum and Margaret (Chisum) Davis according to the account given by John Walling's son Thomas Jefferson in 1875. Much difference of opinion exists concerning the parentage of Anna Chisum, but it is fairly certain that she descended from one of the John Chisum families of Virginia and was likely born there. It is also likely that her family moved into the Montgomery County, Virginia region sometime after 1790 and a John Chisum is shown on the 1790 Census of Orange Co., Virginia.
