"At the age of eleven Hannah Sigmon came to West Virginia to her Grandmother and Grandfather William Jones with whom she spent the next five years prior to marriage. It was while standing in the yard at her grandparents' home that the lovely blue-eyed Hannah was seen by the romantic Elmer Cecil Bailey, who at that time vowed that he was going to marry her. At age sixteen, Hannah married Elmer, in 1924, in Charleston at the Stockton Street home of the Reverend Benjamin Robinson, pastor of the Patrick Street Primitive Baptist Church where the Jones family were members. In the early years of marriage, Hannah and Elmer lived in Charleston, but later moved to Jefferson Park in South Charleston. After Elmer's retirement from United Fuel Gas Company they resided on Martins Branch but spent their winters in their New Smyrna Beach, Florida residence. Only a short time after retirement, Elmer suffered a severe stroke which left him speechless and partially paralyzed. They then moved back to South Charleston where Hannah for twenty years devotedly nursed Elmer until his death in June 1984.
