Zion Cantrell

"Zion Cantrell, son of Jesse James, was born 6 Sep 1821 in Pendleton District, SC. He accompanied his parents to Georgia as a small child. He grew up in the northwestern part of Carroll County. He married Elizabeth Smith 23 Dec 1841 in Carroll County. (The marriage records are on file at the court house at Carrollton, Georgia.) She was born 22 Feb 1822 at Atlanta, Fulton Co., Georgia.
"In 1850, they were recorded in the 11th District of Carroll County and Zion was a farmer. About 1854, Zion moved his family westward to the State of Texas. They settled in Van Zandt County, where he lived the rest of his life. They were recorded in the county in 1860, and their family was complete. In 1870, they were recorded in the county. In 1880, his brother, Benjamin F. had moved to the county and Zion was with them. Zion died 17 Aug 1897 and Elizabeth died 11 Jan 1908."
