"Funeral Held Sunday for Toby Hatcher - A short funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 at the Eldorado (Illinois) funeral home for William Allen "Toby" Hatcher, 81, who died Friday afternoon at the Ferrell Hospital following a long illness. The service was conducted by Rev. O. C. Cooper, pastor of the First Baptist church and the body was then taken to Enfield, where services were held at the Methodist church, where he had long held his membership, the Rev. Vernon Brown officiating. Interment was made in the Enfield cemetery. Mr. Hatcher came to Eldorado from Enfield 28 years ago and was well known here. He was active in the Democratic party and was employed on the state highway for some time. His last employment was at the Nuway Mercantile in the produce department. He had been in failing health for the past few years and lived at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clara Long and her son Jackie. The following sons and daughters survive: Mrs. Clara Long and Mrs. Helen Vaught of Eldorado; Mrs. Irene Stull, Chicago, Illinois, Max Hatcher, Evansville, Indiana, Lloyd Hatcher, Genoa, Illinois and Woodrow Hatcher of Washington, D.C. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Daisy Joy of Morris, Illinois, and four brothers, Theodore Hatcher of Taylorville, Illinois, Carson and Lee Hatcher of Enfield, Illinois and Cleve Hatcher of Carmi, Illinois, and 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. All the children were here for the funeral. The body lay in state at the Eldorado funeral home." (The Eldorado Daily Journal, Eldorado, Illinois.)
