"Catherine "Kitty Greer was sent to Hollins Female Institute where she remained during the war. There is a legend that once when the 37th Battalion Virginia Cavalry passed Hollins with bands playing and colors flying, Kitty Greer led a bevy of girls in dancing on the campus.
