"John Calhoun McCampbell Nelson was born 28 November 1825, Dandridge, Jefferson County, Tennessee, died 7 February 1892 and a marriage date to Jane Short of 10 September 1846. (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: As the first child was born in 1845, I wonder if the marriage date and/or child's birthdate is correct.) List of children also from this source. --- another Family Group Sheet shows they married January 15, 1843." (Notes of Mary Frank Dunn, a page about John C. McCampbell Nelson.)

Some information about the family of John C. M. Nelson from Edith Parker, DAR member #590446; obituary of James E. Terry; Rusk Co, Texas records.

In her plea for pension, Jane (Paul) Nelson stated: John McC Nelson died 7th day of February 1893; she had: a boy 14, a girl 12, a girl 10, a girl 6, and a girl 1. Their birth dates would be about 1878, 1880, 1882, 1886 and 1892, and were all children of Jane Paul Nelson. (NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: There were also older children, not mentioned in this plea, as they were not minors.)

(NOTE FROM RALPH TERRY: A death certificate obtained by Mary Frank Dunn in 1970 shows: "Globe, Gila County, Arizona, John McC. Nelson, Male, date of death: April 26, 1893, Abstracted from old County Record. Filed in Division of May 15, 1915." It appears this date was a filing date from some older records. The pension of Jane (Paul) Nelson showing a death date of 7 February 1893 is most probably accurate.)
