"Funeral services for Chester Arthur Powell, 61, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church here; Rev. John Jenkins officiating, assisted by Neil Rogers, Calvary Baptist Church, Colorado City. Mr. Powell died in Crosbyton Hospital August 19, following a lengthy illness. He had been a resident of Spur for 50 years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge. Survivors include his wife and mother as well as six sons and four daughters. They are: Mrs. O.V. Alexander, Lubbock; Mrs. Albert Spraberry, Jr., Spur; Mrs. Nathan Mathews, Ft. Worth; Mrs. Roland Barber Andrews; D.K. Cactus; James D., Salt Lake City, Roland, Colorado City; Patrick, Midland, Jackie Paul, Midland and Robert, Spur. One sister and four brothers also survive. They are: Viola Mae Chambliss, Fresno, CA; Lee Powell, Corcoran, CA; Daniel, Grants, NM; Marshall and Alvis, both of Spur, twenty two grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survive. Nephews served as pallbearers. Burial was in Spur Cemetery." (The Texas Spur, August 22, 1963)
