Roland Powell, 83, Colorado City went to be with his Lord on Friday, January 29, 2016. He passed away at the Hendrick Medical Center of Abilene with his family by his side.
Roland was born on August 16, 1932 in Spur Texas to Chester and Sarah Dillashaw Powell. After attending school he joined the Marines for a few years then started his life working for many companies, ultimately settling down at Dowell Chemical where he retired as a Safety Manager. Roland was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Colorado City. Those that knew him knew he was a loyal and hard worker and made sure to teach his boys that quality. He also taught them what it was like to love God and how to play baseball, as coaching was one of his many passions in life. In his younger days he would play fast-pitch softball, but once he got too old to play he turned to golf and became an avid golfer.
Roland is survived by his sons Yardy Powell and wife Gayla of Colorado City and Jardy Powell and wife Tori of Lubbock, and by his grandchildren; Jardon Powell of Waco, Tate Powell of Lubbock, Krista Barthold and husband Justin of Gainesville, Josh Ziegler and wife Ashley of Grandbury, and Karter Swenson and husband Justin of Stephenville. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren and his siblings; Helen Ford of Dalhart, Mary Ann Barber of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Sue Bennett of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Lynette Alexander of Houston, DK Powell of Amarillo, Pat Powell of Odessa and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife LaRue, his parents, and by four brothers and a sister.
A funeral service for Roland will be held on Tuesday, February 2nd at the Calvary Baptist Church at 2pm with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. A visitation fo Roland will be held at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home on Monday, February 1st from 6-8 pm.
