17 AUG 1992 By Harold W. Rowland Is this the Nancy that was listed in the 1860 census as a daughter of William E. Rowland??????? She was listed as 15 (1845) years old and was born in AR. The above information indicates year of birth would be 1854/55 and born in NC. See note under Mary Magdeline Rowland (Rin: 718) In a phone conversation with Lina (Owens) Boyd on 1 SEP 1992 she indicated the story that has been passed along by the Hatley family is that Nancy C. Rowland, an orphant, was living with Isaac Wiley and Sarah E. (Furr) Hatley. After Sarah passed away in 1881 Nancy continued to live in the house with Isaac. It was not proper in those days for a single female to live in the house with a single male so Isaac and Nancy were married.
