10 AUG 1992 By Harold W. Rowland 1870 Pope County, Griffin twp (1156) AR census. Wife Esper Anne (27), Susan (14) and John M. (10) Harmon in residence. The following article appeared in the 3 FEB 1991 Courier Democrat, Russellville, AR newspaper in a column called "Yesterday in the Valley" "...June 26, 1913 Y.(J) P. Rowland writes from Winnsboro, Texas: 'I was born in Pope County in 1843, and lived near the mound in Charley Landford's field two miles from Scottsville as a boy. Father later moved to Appleton. I grew up and went to the war in Capt. Joe Howard's Company. After the war, I came to Texas and married Esperann Harmon, and lived here until she died in June 1911. That summer I returned to Arkansas, but found everything much changed with the exception of Whiteoak Mountain, which had not been moved away. I visited all over Pope County and found some of my old soldier friends.'..."
