"Benjamin Fletcher Simmons was a very caring man. Not only did he raised his own children, but he raised children that were orphaned or abandoned by their parents. These children included, Arthur Bowie, Ben Simmons Jones (nickname Cooter, son of Stella Simmons Jones), Finus Ozier, Pauline Hall, Jack Hall, Lena Harris, Martha Ellen Harris, and Maude Harris, who died at a young age. The 1900 census lists the Harris girls as nieces of Benjamin. Lena Harris married Wallac Lassiter. Martha Harris married Sam Hall." (Barbara Daugherty, barjene3@juno.com, 2005.)
