James Hanson was living with his half-brother, Riley J. Hanson in Caddo County, Oklahoma at the time of the 1920 census in January.

"Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Riverview, Cemetery, Brawley, for retired farmer James M. Hanson, 86, who died Friday in Valley Convalescent Hospital, El Centro. The Rev. Melvin Rose of the Church of Christ, Brawley, will officiate and burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Frye Chapel and Mortuary, Brawley. Born August 3, 1902, in Comanche, Texas, Mr. Hanson came to the Imperial Valley in 1930. He spent most of his adult life farming. He last reside at 148 J Street, Brawley. Survivors include: daughters, Ruby Smart, of Brawley, and Mozelle Phillips, of Snyder, Oklahoma; sisters, Betty Swetland, of Redding, and Ethel Rice, of Watsonville; a brother, Clyde Farrar, of Brawley; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren."
