"Rebecca Elizabeth Emanda Butler was born March 28, 1871 in Fannin County, Texas.. Her parents were James Riley Butler and, Nancy Caroline Gardner Butler .. She was my grndmothers aunt . We knew my grandmother was 1/4th indian.. Guess, that would make Lizzie 1/2 indian . She told her son that both parents were indian.. One was Choctaw & the other a Cherokee... She married Jasper Newton Griffith July 13, 1887 in Coleman Co., Texas.. She was 16 & he was 35 yrs. old....
They had abt. 14 children their names were Nancy, James, Julia Elizabeth, Nobie, Vobie(twins), Lou Etta, Tryaniner, Cleo Buddy, Lizzie, Lidebell, Maulsa,Bonnie Lee & Jasper Newton... five of their children died of a young age..
"Lizzie was a mid wife and she delivered 11 of the 12 children my grandmother(her niece)....
"She grew up during difficult times where the pioneer's had to be very tough to stay alive.. Her father was shot in the back and, they say he was very skilled with a gun and, his horse.. Her son told his family that Lizzie carried a gun & holster and, knew how to use it..
"Lizzie had to divorce her husband since they had a difficult marraige...
"She married a Mr. Cantrell when she was abt. 57 yrs. old but, the marraige did not last very long.. She married Sion Thomas Long when she was 81 yrs. old and, lived with him for 6 yrs.. She died at 87 yrs.young, November 07,1958..in Hamlin, Texas, Jones County." (Loretta Neal)
