Andy Griffith was living in Coleman County in 1880, was a railroad employee in 1889 and was living in Fisher Co, Texas in 1900. His descendants say he was never known by "Andrew," always "Andy."

"The Andy Griffith family held a reunion at the Mason Fairgrounds May 23 and 24. About 70 family members attended the event each day. Only three of the Andy Griffith children are still living and all were present. They are: Ed Griffith of Mason, Hugh Griffith of Watsonville, California and Mrs. Charlie (Hester) Wartenbach of San Angelo. Family members from New Mexico and various parts of Texas attended. The oldest one present was Ed Griffith, who is 88 years old. The youngest was Jacob Duncan of Temple, who is one year old. Hugh Griffith and his wife, Ida Mae, traveled the farthest distance."
